NIHR’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Convenes its 22nd Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up convened its 22nd regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Ms. Maria Khouri and membership of Dr. Hameed Hussein and Dr. Mona Hijris.  The panel discussed the activation of declared and undeclared field visits pursuant to Article (11) of the Decree – Law No. (20) of 2016 to review places of detention.

The Committee reviewed the overall complaints and requests for assistance received by it since the previous meeting to date, which amounted to 10 complaints, for which normal actions have been taken and the concerned bodies have been contacted for follow-up.  In addition, it received 32 requests for legal assistance and consultancy.

The Committee further indicated that, since January 2017 to date, it has received 14 complaints, 1 of them was closed as result was achieved therein, and the other complaints are either pending response of the concerned bodies or referred for more research and study.
